AISH Payday Loans: A Complete Guide for Albertans on AISH

At iCash, we recognize that disability-related financial needs are different from typical emergencies. Your AISH benefits represent consistent government income that shouldn't be treated differently from any other reliable payment source. We've built our lending approach around this understanding, creating processes that work with your monthly benefit schedule rather than against it.

Approximately 76,000 Albertans depend on AISH to cover their basic living needs, according to recent Alberta government statistics. Within this community, unexpected costs often center around accessibility, medical needs, and maintaining independence – expenses that rarely align with payment schedules.

Imagine a scenario where someone with a disability who relies on bathroom grab bars has their equipment failing during a winter storm, creating an unsafe situation that can’t wait for the next AISH deposit. Through a payday loan, they can obtain those repair funds almost immediately.

AISH payday loans are short-term financing that accepts social assistance as a valid form of income, specifically AISH (Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped), a program for Albertans living with a medical condition that prevents them from earning a living. They’re meant to provide some financial support until your next disability payment.

With iCash, 24/7 e-Transfer funding is available (yes, even on weekends and holidays), meaning you can receive AISH loans online whenever you need them, ensuring you get emergency funds for AISH when you need them most!

Can You Get a Payday Loan While on AISH?

Absolutely, because your benefits are a valid source of income, and here at iCash, we recognize that. Many lenders view it as a stable, predictable income (because it is). Unlike traditional employment that can vary month to month (depending on the type of work), yourl benefits provide consistent monthly payments that lenders view favorably.

When approving, lenders are looking for reliable income sources, and government benefit payments qualify because they're government-guaranteed and deposited regularly. This makes loans for people on government assistance more accessible than you might expect.

The Payday Loan Application Process for AISH Recipients

Firstly, if you’re wondering about receiving AISH as a benefit, there are a handful of requirements you need to meet, such as being a resident in Alberta. You can view the government website to find out if you qualify for AISH. Now, let’s look at loan requirements:

  1. Meet Loan Eligibility Requirements

    • Be at least 18 years old (19 years old for applicants in British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia)

    • Be a resident of any of the provinces in which we operate (AB, ON, BC, MB, NB, NS, PEI).

    • Show that you have been receiving the same source of income for the past three months.

    • Have a total net income of at least $800/month.

    • Have access to an online bank account, in which pre-authorized debits can be performed.*

    • Have a valid Canadian mobile phone number, address, and email address (VoIP numbers are not accepted)

*Please note that KOHO accounts do not qualify as they do not support pre-authorized debits.

  1. Submit the Application

    • Complete online application in 5-10 minutes

    • Receive an instant decision through automated verification

    • Review the terms and sign your digital agreement

    • Get your approved funds via e-Transfer

Payday loans provide accessible emergency funding, but it's important to understand both the convenience and costs involved. Frequently asked questions

What are the eligibility criteria for AISH payday loans?

To qualify for this type of financial assistance, you must:
  • Be at least 18 years of age.
  • Be a resident of Alberta.
  • Be a recipient of AISH benefits for at least 3 consecutive months.
  • Your minimum monthly income should be at least $800, which can come from benefit payments or other sources of income.
  • Have a valid bank account set up with online banking functions.

These are very easy-to-meet requirements. It’s very possible for individuals living on a fixed income to receive monetary assistance when they need it most.

How quickly can AISH loans be approved?

In minutes! Online lenders offer fast and easy approval for social assistance loans. Advanced technology allows for real-time application assessments.
Funding is also quick. Once you receive approval, get your cash via e-Transfer in 2 minutes or less. This is very beneficial if you’re in a pinch and need money right away.

Are there any specific loan options for AISH recipients in Alberta?

You are eligible for installment loans. This gives you the option of repaying the borrowed amount in fixed payments over a period, rather than in one lump sum.
2 to 7 repayments are available based on your pay frequency at no extra charge. The repayment period ranges from 42 to 62 days. This can help make the loan more manageable and less stressful on a limited income.

Can individuals with disabilities outside of Alberta access similar loan options?

Yes! While AISH loans are for Alberta residents, there are similar loan options available for individuals with disabilities in other provinces. Research and compare different lenders to find the best option that meets your specific needs.
In Ontario, for example, individuals receiving disability benefits can apply for ODSP financing through online lenders. These loans have similar eligibility requirements and quick approval processes. This makes them a viable option if you need emergency funds.
Residents in other provinces also have the option of applying for loans that accept government benefits. As long as you can provide proof of income from social assistance, disability benefits, or other government programs, short-term funding is available to you.

What documents are required to apply for AISH payday loans?

You’ll need a few simple things to apply. This includes valid government-issued identification, proof of home address, proof of income from AISH, and some simple banking details. You may need other documents, but this will depend on the lender and loan amount.

Are there any alternatives to AISH payday loans for individuals with disabilities?

There may be additional government support programs available for individuals with disabilities. These programs may offer financial assistance, employment support, and other resources that can help supplement income.
You can also explore community organizations and non-profit groups that provide financial support for disabled individuals. These organizations may offer grants or other forms of assistance for those in need.

Can I get a payday loan while on AISH?

You can borrow money while you are on AISH. You can use your monthly disability payments to qualify for a loan with us. Many forms of government benefits are acceptable sources of income towards meeting our $800/month net income requirement.

Do you accept other forms of social assistance aside from AISH?

AISH, other government assistance or welfare benefits, insurance payouts or benefits, annuities, pensions, child tax benefits, old age security, and more are all income sources that we accept.
As part of the $800 per month minimum income requirement, you can have income from many different stable sources. Wages from a job are the most common source, by other sources are perfectly valid!
When you fill out your loan application online, you just need to detail out your income sources and amounts under the “Employment Details” section. That way, we’ll be able to consider all of your relevant stable income sources and give you the best possible chance of getting approved for a short term loan.

If I just started my AISH benefit, can I apply for an emergency loan?

To meet the basic qualification requirements for an emergency loan, you need to have had the same source(s) of income for at least 3 months. If you only just started receiving your AISH benefit, you’ll need to wait until you have been receiving it for at least 3 months before applying.
Now, if you have other sources of income that total at least $800 per month on their own, and have been receiving those for at least 3 months, then you can still apply right away, regardless of the status of your AISH benefit.

How does the repayment process work for AISH loans?

You have the option to repay in one lump sum or multiple installments. If you choose one lump sum, you can repay in full with your next benefit payment. If you choose multiple installments, make smaller payments (up to 7) over a set period, up to a maximum of 62 days.
You can set up automatic payments to ensure timeliness or make manual payments as you receive your income. Late or missed payments may result in additional fees. Always stay on top of your repayment schedule and communicate with the lender if any issues arise.
