Can You Get a Payday Loan While on ODSP and Disability?

Minimal Requirements

There are very few requirements for eligibility for an online payday loan that accepts disability benefits in Ontario.
Briefly, those requirements include:

  • You must be at least 19 years of age as of your application date.
  • You must be a Canadian citizen, and a resident of one of the provinces in which we operate, which are: Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, and Ontario.
  • You must have been receiving the same source of income for the past 3 months.
    - In the case of ODSP or Ontario Works payments, pensions, OAS, and other sources of income, your “mix” needs to have been the same for the past 3 months. Employment income for one month and ODSP benefits for 2 months aren’t sufficient, you’d have to wait another month to be eligible.
  • You must have a combined net income of at least $800/month.
    - This includes income from all sources – employment, pensions, and social income assistance benefits like ODSP or Ontario Works included.
  • You must have a Canadian bank account that has been open for at least 3 months, and access to online banking functions.
  • You must have a valid mobile phone number, email address, and home address.

Low Interest Rates

As an online lender, iCASH can operate with a relatively low overhead expense. We don’t have branch offices, for example, so we don’t pay rent or leases on hundreds of locations around Canada. All of this means savings, and that we can pass these savings on to you, in the form of highly competitive, low interest rates on our payday advance loans. This is especially important for those receiving disability benefits through ODSP and Ontario Works programs – you want to make sure your money goes as far as possible.

ODSP Payday Loans Solution

We provide payday loans for people on ODSP, Ontario Works & Disability Income which you can apply for anytime, 24 / 7. The convenience and speed with which you can apply for and receive a loan helps ensure you put the rest of your time to good use.

The convenience aspect of completing your loan application online is especially important for those who are on ODSP, since many people with disabilities find it hard to travel, and traditional payday lenders require one or more visits to a branch office, paper forms, notarization, faxing, mailing, and other hassles. This can be especially difficult, if not impossible, for those who are disabled particularly so in the snow and ice which Canadian winters are well known for. With iCASH, all of that hassle and trouble is cut out of the process.

Flexibility to Meet Your Needs

iCASH believes that every individual that’s receiving ODSP, Ontario Works & Disability Income benefits is different and has distinctive needs. So why should a cash loan be a one-size-fits-all proposition? It shouldn’t! That’s why we let you choose how much you want to borrow, anywhere from $100 to $1,500.

We also provide you with different options on how you like to pay back your loan. You can choose from a single lump sum repayment at your next ODSP or Ontario Works benefit period or spread out the repayment schedule over 2 or 3 periods.

This provides you with the flexibility to best suit your financial situation. And what’s more, we don’t ever charge you a higher interest rate just because you need 2 or 3 installments to repay the loan.

A Focus on Customer Loyalty

When you take out an ODSP payday loan, we want to make sure that your experience with iCASH is nothing short of excellent, in addition to being fast and easy. We want you to come back every time you need to borrow money, should the need come up in the future.

When you apply for a loan, you get a free membership account to our site. This provides you with access to information and tools to help manage your finances.

At the same time, you’ll be enrolled into our rewards program, which provides you with cash back. The way it works is, the more loans you take out and repay back on time, the more cash back you earn. It’s just our way of saying “THANK YOU!”.

Aside from ODSP and Ontario Works, what other social assistance programs qualify for a payday loan?

There are many forms of social assistance programs, both at the provincial level and federal government level. The vast majority of those are accepted as part of the income requirement for a Payday loan in Ontario.

The full range of options are discussed in detail in our loan application literature during the application process. A general rule of thumb is, if it’s a consistent benefit that’s paid monthly or more frequently and does not have any usage restrictions attached to the funds, then we will likely consider that benefit as part of your net income for eligibility purposes.

Are there employment requirements to be eligible for an ODSP loan in Ontario?

While steady employment and a steady paycheck make it more likely you will be approved for a loan, there is no employment requirement – just the basic eligibility requirements we outlined above. So long as you meet those, you can apply for a loan. While we cannot guarantee approval, we won’t reject your application as long as you meet those basic requirements.

I still have questions. Can I talk to someone about my loan application?

Absolutely! We strive to provide the resources and information necessary on our site to allow full self-service for our customers. This includes articles, blog posts, our Frequently Asked Questions section, and other resources. But we also recognize that you may, from time to time, run into problems or have questions that aren’t addressed, and want to talk to an actual human being.

We have a fully-staffed team of Customer Experience Advisors available on the phone to answer any questions or address any problems you may have.

They are available 7 days a week, during normal business hours in Ontario, with reduced hours on Saturday and Sunday. They’ll be happy to directly address any questions, concerns, or problems you may have.

Can I complete my loan application over the phone?

Unfortunately, no. For the security and confidentiality of your information, you have to complete the application online. While our Customer Experience Advisors can address issues with your application, questions you may have, and similar, they cannot complete the application form for you. This helps to ensure your information is not compromised in any way, and remains as safe, secure, and private as possible during the application and lending process.

I read that you are a direct licensed payday lender. What does that mean?

As a licensed and certified direct lender, iCASH complies with the licensing and certification requirements in Ontario. This provides consumers with the assurance that we’re among the top lenders in the industry.

It also helps us ensure we maintain the highest ethical standards and industry best practices, complying with all applicable laws and regulations.

Our goal is to provide our customers with the best, most transparent and responsible short-term lending experience they can get anywhere.
